In the era when music chose to go the hard way, from being soft on ears to tearing the eardrums apart, was born the hard rock music. Though such music gave you bouts of headache, the songs clung to your heart owing to beautiful lyrics.
But when the bands of the 70’s wished to go the anti- establishment way, spurting their anger and wrath, and turning more aggressive with their music, with quick numbers that did not bother much about the lyrics, punk rock made its way into the music industry.
Known for loud music, aggression, vitality, and almost no music theory at all, these bands created music that hugely attracted the teens and the youngsters across the globe
The Maysides are an indie punk rock band with four fabulous performers – Matt Harris, the lead vocalist and guitarist, Michael Lamb, the drummer, Kenny Holt, the guitarist, and the terrific Tyler Vieira who handles bass. This band boast of engaging their audiences with an extensive blend of indie punk rock music with a unique, creatively devised signature sound that remains etched in the hearts of the punk lovers.
Wonder how does pop punk create a signature sound when all it has is a wailing vocalist in tow with the barre chords from the electric guitar, competing to be louder than the instrument, only to leave the crowd in a confused cacophony of sounds.
Hailing from Hamilton/Niagara, Ontario, this band has had its fair share ofperformances with other renowned bands such as Steel Panther, Gob, illCarlett, and The Flatliners. They have also frequented on multiple college radio stations like The Brock University’s 103.7 CFBU or the McMaster93.3 CFMU to connect with the students with exclusive numbers. Now, whether they succeeded in entertaining the listeners or left them perturbed and pondering over what they just heard is a different story altogether!
The Maysides entered the ocean of punk rock bands with a six track EP Evicted on October 12, 2013, that handled raving reviews from fans that gave them the platform for indie punk rock music, assuring wide acceptance and appreciation among cheerful and doleful listeners. Another six track EP Loved And Lost has also been released by the pop punk band which consists of some really funky numbers like “Sweet Memories” and “Bucket List” that have resonated with the young audiences well, as for the old, they are better off avoiding punk as they only fall into a “to-listen-or-not- to-listen” conundrum.
The lyrics in each composition forms a perfect base for all the immature rants by the adolescents, sometimes describing an infatuated “lost love”, at other times cursing their hearts off. But Evicted EP is better off as it includes a mixture of mellower track like “Get Away” and old-rock style “1000 Friends” and the likes of “Kegger” that wants you get up and party.
Still, in 2016, The Maysides have been awarded both “Punk Artist of the Year” and “New Artist of the Year” by the Niagara music awards for their amazing performances and creatively curated compositions in their signature sound that they had so well created and implemented. Indeed this band promises to bring out some fantastic songs and leg-shaking performances in the future, ready to offer a delectable treat to their eager and excited fans.
