Pist Idiots is one of the biggest punk rock acts of the year. The group of four friends from the a little known town called Revesby has had a busy time this year. They have just released their latest EP Princes. The group took out the Triple J Unearthed spot at the Sydney Limits Festival and played the Mountain Sounds Festival and the Bad Friday Festival. In a recent interview the band’s front man, Sniff said he just “loves fucking screaming at people” but it’s not screaming for fuck’s sake.

The band has been everywhere sharing stages with some notable bands like Justice and Beck while making friends along the way. They count bands like Skeggs, Wash, and Dumb Punts and the guys from Bad//Dreems as some of the friends they have made.

The band is made up of Jack Sniff on guitar and vocals, Joey Tomato on lead guitar, Tommy Tomato on bass guitar and Melton Jon on drums. And yes, those are their real names. Pist Idiots delivers the sweaty, beer soaked pub-rock that gives Suburban Punk Rock a meaning.

The Idiots’ lyrics delivered with some solid guitar rhythm and a unique voice manage to be funny and tough but vulnerable at the same time. Take 99 Bottles from the band’s self-titled EP, for instance. It’s a slow, heart-wrenching track with a haunting hook and a guitar riff that will give you the chills.

However, if there is one song to listen to in the Idiot’s repertoire it is Fuck Off. It resonates with a lot of people because we’ve all been rejected by someone at some point in our lives, and it’s great to have a song that takes you back to that point and let’s you kick that feeling and stick your middle finger up in defiance.

The boys look like a couple of good old lads who like hanging out and talking deep rubbish over pints of beer. In fact the guys played a lot of pub gigs for about a year-and-a-half before they could even record any of their songs.

This meant being on the road after their regular day jobs and full-time studies; and hitting pubs in Wollongong and Cronulla and driving to Sydney for weekend gigs.

These guys didn’t just stumble onto the scene, they slogged their way through. They have been on tour with bands like Gooch Palms and recently, they played in the Skegss’ Holiday Food Tour’ with Good Boy.

The guys performances are crazy and chaotic, frenetic and loud just like rock is meant to be. The punk aspect of their music lies in the lyrics. They are poignant and a little unsettling, but strangely relatable. That sounds convoluted, but you can sort of get why they name bands like The Saints as some of the bands that they draw their inspiration from.

The band started 2018 on a high winning the triple j Unearthed competition to play at the Sydney City Limits concert at Centennial Park in Sydney on the 24th February 2018.

The band has announced their upcoming national tour starting at the Parkhouse Hotel in Mona Valle, NSW on the 10th of August and ending up on the 7th of September at the Marrickville Bowlo in Marrickville, NSW.The guys will play The Rocket Bar & Rooftop in Adelaide on the 17th August 2018. They will also share the stage at the Rad Bar, NSW with Los Pintar and Naughty Naughty & The Good Boys on the 6th September. By all indications, we can expect 2018 to be a banger for the Pist Idiots.
